Description

Philadelphus Starbright is a magnificent fragrant mock orange bush with bronze-purple young shoots and the base of the flowers (the calyx). The unique colours of this plant have earned it a reputation. Combined with the beautiful pure white flowering, they create a stunning, harmonious, elegant effect.

This mock orange bush, or poet's jasmine, is slightly smaller, and its flowers are larger than most Philadelphus varieties. These characteristics and those of its close relatives make it perfectly hardy, and its abundant flowers release their enchanting characteristic fragrance reminiscent of orange blossom.

Plant it as you please, in a free or trimmed hedge, alone or in a border with other bushes and perennials. But to enjoy its exceptional fragrance, place it near high-traffic areas.

Planting and care

You can plant your Philadelphus Starbright either in the autumn or spring. This plant is quite adaptable to various soil types, but it's a good idea to enrich poor or chalky soils with well-rotted leaf compost. When it comes to pruning, it's best to do so after the flowering period. This compact bush tends to maintain a bushy shape, so avoid excessive pruning, but feel free to trim it if needed, as Philadelphus can recover well. To rejuvenate your bush, consider removing the oldest branches at the base every 3-4 years.
