Description
The GALAXY® Antares 'Meilcy001' miniature rose is a dwarf landscape rose of great lightness, covered in a cloud of fuchsia-pink flowers from spring to autumn. Compact and rounded, it is perfect on a balcony, terrace, or as a border in a flower bed. Its almost continuous flowering, very healthy green foliage, and ease of cultivation appeal to both weekend gardeners and professional landscapers, in town or countryside.
This rose belongs to the Rosaceae family. Modern garden roses, which include GALAXY® Antares, are complex hybrids derived from a small number of founding species, notably Rosa gallica, R. damascena, R. chinensis, or R. multiflora, worked on for centuries by breeders. In commerce, this variety goes by the names dwarf landscape rose GALAXY® Antares or miniature landscape rose GALAXY® Antares. A deciduous shrub, it quickly forms a particularly compact, rounded bush, approximately 40 cm in height and 30 to 40 cm in spread. The stems, thin but numerous, branch from the base and bear small thorns. The root system, dense and fibrous, goes deep without producing suckers: the plant stays firmly in place, even after many years. The foliage is composed of very small oval leaflets, finely serrate, of a dark green with a slight sheen; it yellows and falls in autumn, allowing the plant to rest during winter.
The flowers, single, have five petals arranged in a star shape around a prominent bunch of yellow stamens. Borne in tight clusters, they are small, around 2 cm in diameter, but so numerous that they almost cover the foliage at peak flowering. Their colour, a very bright fuchsia pink, lighter at the centre, enhances their star-like appearance. Flowering begins in May, continues through summer, and offers a fine repeat in September and October; as the petals fall naturally, the plant is self-cleaning and maintains a tidy appearance. Like all roses, it may produce a few small hips late in the season, which remain discreet on this type of miniature rose.
Bred in France by Meilland and listed in the 2025 catalogue, GALAXY® Antares belongs to the GALAXY® series, which brings together four miniature roses named after bright stars (Antares, Vega, Naos, Arcturus) designed to stay very compact while flowering abundantly. It withstands temperatures down to -20 °C.
In the garden, GALAXY® Antares can be placed at the front of a flower bed, as a ribbon along a path, or as a terrace border, in full sun in any not-too-dry and well-drained soil. Its small size is very well-suited to ornamenting pots and flower containers. You can pair it with groundcover roses like ‘Amirose’ in pastel pink shades, or 'Lupo’, a bright pink, very fruit-bearing at season's end. In a large container, combine this miniature rose with the hardy geranium 'Brookside', in flower all summer, or with the gaura ‘Cherry Brandy’ with its very vivid pink flowering.

Planting and care
The Galaxy Antares rose prefers sunny locations. This rose is highly disease-resistant, but if you do notice spotted or affected leaves, remove them without delay. It is fully hardy in open ground, though in a pot it will be a little more fragile. To plant your rose, work the soil by breaking it up well and place an amendment, such as dried blood or dehydrated horn, at the bottom of the planting hole. Water generously after planting to eliminate air pockets. Water regularly for a few weeks to encourage rooting.
In a pot, use a mix of garden soil and compost at a ratio of 1/3 to 2/3. Don't forget the layer of clay pebbles or gravel for drainage. Under these conditions, ensure it is watered throughout the year.
Roses often become spotted or unsightly by late summer, but this is not a problem for their development. These spots are not harmful; it is a natural phenomenon. Follow all our advice to remedy the situation and read our article: Help: I have spots on my roses

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
