I cannot judge the flowering of this young plant this year as it was planted late and probably in soil that is not rich enough. I replanted the plant this autumn in richer compost, with more space, and pruned the stems. The result should be apparent in the following spring.

Description

Verbascum Jackie is a beautiful perennial whose stems bear numerous salmon pink flowers with an intense plum heart.

 

Also known as mullein, Verbascum Jackie forms rosettes of hairy leaves, about 25-30cm (10-12in) in diameter. In early summer, short flower spikes emerge from the foliage. The salmon pink flowers with plum centres, reach 35-40cm (14-16in) high.

This verbascum is easy to grow in poor, moist, well-drained soils. It thrives in rocky and limestone soil, in a warm and sunny location.

 

Plant it at the edge of a rockery bed with grasses for well-draining soil like stipas, fescues or panicums.
