The Sage or Salvia greggii is a very floriferous perennial shrub with red flowers and variegated white foliage. The shrubby Sages have a place in Cottage Gardens. Hardy down to -10° (14°F).

Planting and care

Plant Salvia in neutral to slightly alkaline, moist soil. This lovely young plant adapts well to rich, well-drained soil. When planting, add a basal fertilizer. In late autumn, prune it back to 25 cm (10in) and mulch in colder regions.
