Description

Very floriferous collection of 3 astrantias, composed of:

1 White Astrantia

1 Pink Astrantia

1 Dark Red Astrantia

Each flower measures from 3 to 5 cm (1 to 2 in) .

It forms sumptuous beds and also has an exceptional vase life as a cut flower.

Avoid exposing it to too much heat (midday sun) if your soil is a bit dry. They self-seed quite easily and flower for a very long time. They are spectacular in front of a dark hedge.

Planting and care

In cool soil, plant your astrantias in partial shade, avoiding excessive exposure to heat (midday sun). In humus-bearing soil, astrantia self-seeds and easily produces new seedlings capable of flowering within a few weeks, prolonging the flowering period for several months. To plant your pot, prepare your soil to a depth of 20 cm (8 in), crumbling the soil and adding a base amendment such as dried blood or crushed horn at the bottom of the planting hole. Position your plant, freed from its pot, covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1 in) of soil. Fill in the hole, tamp down, and water generously to remove any air pockets. In dry weather, water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root establishment. In wet weather, keep slugs away, as young plants are susceptible to them. How to do this: with wood ash, slug repellent, or even beer! Each of these solutions is highly effective.
