Received and planted in the autumn in a south-facing container, the young plants have withstood the harsh winter (-10°C) very well, and in this early spring, numerous new leaves are appearing all around the central plant. It's a joy to watch!

Description

Achillea millefolium 'Apfelblüte' is a magnificent perennial for sunny locations with umbel flowers in shades of pink.

This variety of yarrow has a bushy habit. This vigorous plant produces an abundance of flowers throughout summer. From June onwards, it produces beautiful clusters of flat flowers. In bloom until September-October, the faded inflorescences can be used to make stunning dried bouquets.

The light and finely cut foliage is semi-evergreen with a grey-green colour. It beautifully contrasts with the flowers. At maturity, the plant reaches a height of 60cm (24in). Achillea millefolium 'Apfelblüte' thrives in the sun, in poor and well-drained soil. Use it in rock gardens or at the front of sunny borders, combined with velvet yarrows or Barnsley mallows.

Planting and care

Place mainly in the sun in light, well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil. It will tolerate stony soil. It has good drought resistance and is very hardy. Easy to grow, it does not require any particular maintenance. Simply remove the faded flower stalks to promote a second flowering and water regularly. You can prune occasionally to maintain a compact habit. In summer, make sure the soil does not dry out too much. Powdery mildew is common. Beware of aphid attacks.
