Arrived in good condition, tiny shoots that I transplanted right away. I hope they will survive the winter well and that in spring they will grow and bloom quickly and abundantly.

Description

Viola x wittrockiana Cool Wave Blue Skies is a hybrid variety of V. x wittrockiana. It is a biennial plant with exceptional flowering in a particularly soft blue colour. It brightens up the garden and pots from October to April. Its trailing habit is ideal for hanging baskets. Its flowers constantly renew themselves regardless of climatic conditions. It can also be used as ground cover in flower beds.

Cool Wave series represents a new generation of trailing pansies. They have excellent branching and form a clump that can reach 20cm (8in) in height and 20 to 40cm (8 to 16in) in width. This size can even be accentuated if you provide them with fertiliser every 15 days. They thrive perfectly in balcony planters, thanks to their trailing habit, and offer an impressive flowering power. It is a short-lived perennial plant, grown as a biennial in our latitudes. It produces small crenate leaves with an elliptical shape. The foliage is a medium green colour. It bears an abundance of small flowers measuring 3 to 4cm (1 to 2in). They are composed of five petals. The soft blue colour of Blue Skies is awakened by a lovely little golden heart with a few black whiskers. The petals are edible (if you choose to grow them without treatment), so try adding them to your salads.

When planted in summer, they will bloom from autumn onwards. These robust pansies withstand unfavourable weather conditions and tolerate periods of frost. They may droop in the cold, but will revive as temperatures become milder. They will accompany you throughout winter, becoming more discreet, and continue to bloom in spring.

Pansies are wonderful in the garden, but they also work beautifully in a pot on a windowsill to be enjoyed up close. They look perfect in pots on a patio, or in flower beds with spring bulbs. Blue Skies will complement the pastel shades of grape hyacinths, forget-me-nots, and narcissus, for example.

Please be aware that our plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible, either in pots and containers, or directly in flower beds.

Planting and care

Transplant the plugs directly into pots or planters upon receipt. Monitor watering and regularly apply fertiliser (approximately twice a month).

If you wish to plant them in the ground, first transplant them into a pot. Water carefully, but do not saturate the soil. There is no need to keep them in a greenhouse. They will be satisfied with a non-burning exposure. After a month, you can transplant them directly into their permanent location.

Remove faded flowers as they appear to encourage the growth of new buds.
