Very beautiful young plants, the small pruning is not a problem, the roots are really beautiful. I can't wait to see the result in spring...

Description

Viola Cool Wave Morpho is the only hybrid pansy with a trailing habit and large flowers, making it ideal for hanging baskets. Vigorous, it can form a carpet up to 75 cm (30in) in diameter, bearing numerous bicoloured flowers in pale blue and bright yellow, highlighted by small black 'whiskers'. Particularly hardy, this variety is also the first to bloom from early spring to the beginning of summer. It is easy to grow in humus-bearing and moist soil, in a sunny or semi-shaded location.

Garden pansies, sometimes called Swiss giant pansies, are actually hybrids grouped under Viola x wittrockiana. They belong to the Violaceae family and are mostly grown as annuals or biennials, although they are theoretically perennial but short-lived. The 'Cool Wave Morpho' variety is a trailing and stoloniferous plant that quickly forms large clumps with a spreading or trailing habit, reaching 30 cm (12in) in height and 60 to 75 cm (24 to 30in) in width. It flowers from late winter to late spring, or from late spring to the end of summer. Its flowers are large, fully open, with a tiny orange heart. The lower petal is almost entirely bright yellow, adorned with black whiskers, surrounded by 2 white-blue petals, while the 2 upper petals are a slightly deeper pale blue. The medium green leaves are elliptical and broadly crenate.

If you love them in the garden, you will appreciate them even more in window boxes, to admire in front of you while keeping warm inside. You can associate them with primroses, wallflowers, grape hyacinths, daisies, and even with grasses like Japanese sedge for a striking effect in a contemporary style. Combine them with coral bells and tulips. The blue-green of glaucous fescues also enhances their appearance. Their colours blend well with orange and blue, for a bohemian touch.

Pansy petals are edible and their colours will also add an original touch to your salads and pastries. For this, think of growing them as you would your vegetables - in the most natural way possible.

Note: Please note that our plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible, in pots, window boxes or directly into beds.

Planting and care

Very floriferous and fast-growing, 'Cool Wave Morpho' pansies are hungry and appreciate full sun or partial shade. They thrive in a humus-bearing, neutral to acidic, moist and fertile soil. Feed them with liquid fertiliser for containers once or twice a week during the growing season. Water regularly but without excess. Regularly remove faded flowers to promote new flowering.
