Description

Stunning perennial plants that we use without moderation in our exotic garden. They have strong, slender but flexible stems that bear long, narrow, opposite leaves, a bit like a fishbone. They thrive in rich, deep soil, never lacking water during the growing season, and a warm exposure, as the flowers, all more or less fragrant, bloom late in our garden. In warmer regions, they may appear as early as August. They slowly grow into majestic, spectacular clumps with the help of their powerful underground rootstocks.

Very strong, upright stems, reddish-brown at the base, bearing large dark green leaves. Very late flowers, if they appear because in our garden, after 3 years of cultivation, a huge greenish bud appears at the end of the stem in late October which never opens. Perhaps in a warmer region... In any case, it is probably the largest of its genus.

Planting and care

Noted for their poor cold resistance, we still leave the stumps in the ground for about 9 to 10 years, and none of them have died so far. At the first frost, we cut back the foliage to the ground and then mulch the stumps with a thick layer of dead leaves. This has always been sufficient so far. The stump can also be dug up and treated like cannas. Stumps are only shipped in clumps from March to May.
