Disappointed as the plants have grown very little and not flowered at all - I responded accordingly to an email sent by Promesse de fleurs.

Description

Crocosmia Emily McKenzie is a very bright orange, set off by a dark-red centre. Its flowers appear in large numbers on flexible flower stems. The flowers form horizontal spikes. The foliage is slender, like that of gladioli. Crocosmias or montbretias are very hardy bulbs. They thrive in open ground, in a sunny position and in well-drained soil. They multiply over the years and become more beautiful every year.

They are well suited to naturalistic gardens, mixed with perennials or grasses.

They are also excellent plants for your cut flower arrangements.

Planting and care

Plant crocosmias in full sun. They need a light, well-drained soil. Work the soil well at planting time and, if necessary, incorporate sand. They should be covered with 5 to 8 cm of soil and spaced about 15 cm apart. They like rich soils. Apply a fertiliser at planting time and renew it each spring. While they like a well-drained soil in winter, crocosmias need plenty of water during their growing season.
