Description

Tulipa viridiflora 'China Town' is the successor of T. 'Greenland'. Its pale-pink flowers are veined with green. Its hue changes throughout the flowering period. Its petals end in a point. Flowering occurs late in May.

The foliage is variegated. The 'China Town' tulip reaches about 30cm (12in) in height when mature. Tulipa viridiflora is known for its good endurance, with flowers lasting up to three weeks.

This variety of tulip can be accompanied by both biennials and perennials. You can plant it with pink daisies or pansies. It is a charming asset for flower beds.

Planting and care

Preferably plant the bulbs in a sunny location from October to December for a beautiful spring flowering. You can also place them in a partially shaded area. Plant the bulbs as soon as possible in light, fertile, loosened, and well-drained soil. Plant the bulbs 15cm (6in) deep (the bulbs should be covered with twice their height of soil). Space the bulbs 10cm (4in) apart (making sure they do not touch each other) to create a mass effect that will give a more decorative aspect. Water regularly, especially during dry winters. Cut the flower stalks after flowering. Allow the leaves to dry completely before cutting them.
