I have ordered bulbs twice now (2018 and November 2021). At the time of flowering, I realize that the colors are not as ordered... I received a lot of red and yellow tulips, whereas the colors I ordered were mainly in the pink shades. I wanted to give it another try, thinking it was an exceptional mistake, but this time I will not order bulbs anymore. There is definitely an organizational problem in this company... It's a shame because this website has beautiful bulbs!

Description

The Tulip Triumph 'Angela Merkel' is an elegant selection with the perfect curve of its corolla and a brilliant red colour bordered with orange. The flower, carried by a sturdy stem of medium length, is perfect in a vase. In the garden, this characterful tulip will bloom in the middle of the tulip season, tempered by a bed of white flowers, for example.

The Tulip Triumph 'Angela Merkel' belongs to the Liliaceae family. Of horticultural origin, registered in 2014 in the Netherlands, it is currently classified in the 'Triumph' group, whose main characteristic is to have narrow cup-shaped flowers. They are the result of a cross-breeding between early single tulips and Darwin tulips. This variety, which flowers between April and May, produces stems of at least 40cm (16in) in height. The flower consists of shiny petals, vermilion red in colour, more or less bordered with orange, sometimes leaning towards yellow. The glaucous green foliage yellows and disappears shortly after flowering, while the bulb enters a dormant period.

With a wide range of colours, solid and resistant flowers, suitable for both flower beds and bouquets, the fame of Triumph tulips is well established. They are among the most planted varieties. Unmatched for bringing the colors of spring to pots or sunny gardens, don't forget to consider the height and flowering period when designing your flower beds, as these parameters can vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is wise to plant a few more bulbs for cutting, as they make beautiful cut flowers that last a long time in a vase.

Tulip species are found in most parts of the Old World, from Western Europe to China and Japan, including Eastern Europe, Asia Minor, and Central Asia. Their distribution area also includes North Africa and the Indian subcontinent. The centre of diversity for the genus is located in the Pamir and Hindu Kush mountains and the steppes of Kazakhstan.

Planting and care

Plant the 'Angela Merkel' tulip bulbs in autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15cm (6in), spacing them 10cm (4in) apart. The planting should be done in ordinary soil, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline, loose, well-worked, and well-drained. Never add manure or poorly decomposed compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. Tulips will grow well in moist to dry soil in summer. Plant them in a sunny or partially shaded location. Once flowering is complete, it is preferable to remove the fruits to avoid exhausting the plant.
