Description

Tulipa 'Matrix' Double Tulip is a spring bulb that blooms in April and May. This variety of double tulips produces large double flowers in a soft red perched on very sturdy, short stems that withstand bad weather. It is a robust plant.

The 'Matrix' tulip has spring interest and reaches a height of 40 cm (16in) and a width of 15 cm (6in) at maturity. Its green foliage is deciduous. This tulip has good hardiness.

Double tulips fit well in large flowerbeds and by combining them with other tulips, you can maximise the flowering duration of the beds. It can also be used as a border, in rock gardens, flower beds, pots and containers. This beautiful tulip enhances balconies and terraces. They are also lovely cut flowers. It pairs well with tall perennials as well as pansies or primroses.

Planting and care

Plant your 'Matrix' tulips as soon as possible in well-drained soil. Loosen the soil thoroughly. Plant at a depth of 15 cm (6in) (Bulbs should be covered with twice their height of soil). Space the bulbs a few cm apart, ensuring they do not touch. Choose a sunny exposure for optimal flowering. Cut the flower stems after flowering but allow the leaves to completely dry before cutting them. After flowering, their foliage becomes unsightly. We recommend planting Heucheras, Tiarelles, Brunneras, Bleeding Hearts and Cypress Spurge at the front of your flower beds. Their foliage will enhance the colours of your tulips and elegantly conceal their yellowed leaves.
