Description

Curious little bulbous Mediterranean plant, called Iris tuberosa or formerly Hermodactylus tuberosus produces chartreuse green and black flowers!

Belonging to the same family as Irises, Hermodactylus tuberosus is native to the Mediterranean basin. It forms a stump emitting tubercles like small bulbs, from which in spring lanceolate, very narrow leaves emerge. The solitary flowers at the end of a small stem, velvety, are colored chartreuse green and have black spots.

The plant multiplies by bulblet and quickly forms beautiful colonies.

Easy to grow, it likes very well-drained, poor, limestone soils and above all, lots of sunlight to bloom! In summer, it goes into vegetative rest.
