Tiny and delivered with a broken branch... I bought it on sale and regret this purchase. It's better to pay more and have a plant in good condition!

Description

A compact bush with autumn flowering, Camellia sasanqua Early Pearly is an early variety with beautiful double white flowers.

Noted for its early flowering, this variety blooms as early as October and produces abundant flowers until December. It forms a compact bush 1.20m (4 ft) tall and 1m (3 ft 4 in) wide and produces circular, double, imbricate flowers of pearlescent white colour, approximately 4-5cm (2 in) in diameter.

The elliptical leaves of the camellia are dark green, measuring 5 to 8 cm (2 to 3 in) in length, and are evergreen. Hardy down to -12°C, this variety is cultivated in partial shade, sheltered from cold winds. It prefers acidic, humus-rich, moist and light soils.

Plant Camellia sasanqua Early Pearly in ericaceous soil together with azaleas, skimmia, Pieris, and heathers. Its compact size allows for pot cultivation: place it in a partially shaded terrace and bring the pot indoors as soon as the cold sets in to enjoy the flowering for a longer period.

Planting and care

Camellia sasanqua should be grown in a partially shaded area sheltered from cold and drying winds. You can grow it in full sun but the roots must remain moist. Plant in a moist, humus-rich, acidic, and well-drained soil. Do not plant the bush too deeply; the top of the root ball should be covered with 3 cm (1.2 in) of soil. In winter, cover it with a 5 to 7 cm (2 to 3 in) thick mulch composed of leaf compost and crushed bark. Be careful of late frosts that can damage the flowers and buds. During dry periods, water the bush to prevent the dropping of flower buds.
