Thanks to the individuals (order preparation & quality control and shipping service), the rose bush I received appears healthy. Planted near several other plants of the same variety, I am now waiting for it to take root...

Description
The Rosier Urban Streetlight Rekord Sommerabend is a true groundcover rose, well covering, which extends as a carpet and unfolds a magnificent sparkling flowering, cascading down slopes and walls or forming beautiful red streams in borders. It is also capable of covering any small structure. Throughout the summer, until the first frosts, hundreds of small blood-red flowers with golden centres succeed each other abundantly on its beautiful dark green foliage, unaffected by diseases. This variety, created by the German rose breeder Kordes in 1995, remains a reference among groundcover roses.
The hybrid rose Sommerabend 'Kormarec' obtained the highly selective German A.D.R. label in 1996, for its excellent disease resistance among other criteria. It is part of a series of roses developed in partnership with 'Globe Planter', the 'Urban Streetlight' roses, bringing together varieties selected for their bulletproof health, their robustness, and their ability to bloom enthusiastically without requiring much maintenance. These plants are widely used in urban landscaping.
This variety 'Sommerabend' belongs to the family of floribunda roses, with flowers grouped in clusters, and to the category of groundcover roses due to its low and spreading habit. It quickly forms a very dense carpet, about 30 cm (12in) high and 80 cm (32in) wide. Its long thorny stems are well branched and covered with abundant foliage, a beautiful glossy dark green, finely toothed leaflets on the edges. Its flowering, particularly abundant in June-July, regularly continues until October if the soil remains somewhat moist in summer. Its small 4-5 cm (2in) diameter corollas, with 5 petals, form flat cups and are grouped in clusters. Their colour is a bright, vibrant red. They open to reveal a small throat, slightly more pink, sheltering a beautiful heart of yellow stamens. The deciduous foliage turns yellow before falling in autumn.
The groundcover rose 'Sommerabend' adapts to all soils that are not too dry and to all climates, which allows it to be welcomed without reservation in many regions. In the south, place it preferably in the morning sun, while it will flower better in full sun in the north. It works wonders in rock gardens, above a wall, planted along a path, at the base of a hedge or at the front of a shrub border. It can also be planted en masse to cover large areas, for example on a large slope where it will effectively cover the ground. Also, associate it with groundcover roses with white, pink, yellow, red, or orange flowers to highlight the path of an alley or the edge of a patio. Groundcover roses create magnificent displays with perennial geraniums, catmints, and perennial salvias. With a little daring, it can be paired with Muhlenbergia capillaris, a grass that produces a cloud of pink flowers in late summer, rock cress, and perennial flax for the intense blue of its flowers.

Planting and care
Plant the ground cover rose 'Sommerabend' from November to March, in ordinary, well-prepared, and well-drained soil. Roses prefer clay soils that are rather heavy than light. In soils that are too sandy, compact, or dry in summer, it is preferable to incorporate compost, decomposed manure, or humjus at the bottom of the planting hole. However, this rose dislikes waterlogged soils in winter. Place it in a sunny location, preferably in partial shade. Roses are hungry plants, and a specific fertiliser application will be beneficial at the start of vegetation, and regularly throughout the flowering period.
To encourage reblooming, regularly remove faded old flowers. Floribunda rose varieties are more vigorous and floriferous than large-flowered rose varieties. Therefore, prune the stems by about a quarter of their length (from 4 to 6 buds from the base of the stem) in late winter. Always prune above an outward-facing bud to allow the bush to bush out and prevent the branches from tangling in the centre of the branches.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.
The harvesting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions in USDA zone 8 (France, England, Ireland, the Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...) fruit and vegetable harvests are likely to be delayed by 3-4 weeks.
In warmer areas (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), harvesting will probably take place earlier, depending on weather conditions.
The sowing periods indicated on our website apply to countries and regions within USDA Zone 8 (France, UK, Ireland, Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...), delay any outdoor sowing by 3-4 weeks, or sow under glass.
In warmer climes (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), bring outdoor sowing forward by a few weeks.
The planting period indicated on our website applies to regions in USDA Zone 9a (East Coast and Midlands: Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny, Portlaoise). It will vary depending on where you live:
- On the west coast and in the north-west (Galway, Limerick, Sligo, Donegal, Westport), delay planting by 1 to 2 weeks in spring and bring it forward by 1 to 2 weeks in autumn compared to the dates given, preferably choosing periods without strong winds.
- In the inland hills and plateaus (Wicklow Mountains, Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, Connemara, Killarney), it is best to plant in spring (April–May) or autumn (September–October), avoiding periods of waterlogged soil in winter and strong winds, which pose the main risk to newly planted trees in these areas.
The flowering period indicated on our website applies to regions in USDA Zone 9a, such as the East Coast and Midlands, including Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny and Portlaoise.
This will vary depending on where you live:
- On the west coast and in the northwest (Galway, Limerick, Sligo, Donegal and Westport), it will be delayed by one to two weeks compared to the given dates, due to stronger Atlantic winds and less spring sunshine.
- In the inland hills and plateaus (the Wicklow Mountains, the Macgillycuddy's Reeks, Connemara and Killarney), flowering will be delayed by two to three weeks. Flowering mainly occurs between May and July, with the limiting factors being less frost and more of the excessive humidity, strong winds and lack of sunshine that are characteristic of these areas.
