5/5 In a few years, it re-seeds well and forms beautiful carpets under trees, in acidic soil. Flowers well detached from the plant, very refined. It's a shame they are not scented.

Description

Viola sororia 'Priceana' forms spreading mats of white flowers maculate with violet.

Easy to grow, this violet thrives in the shade of tall trees. It colonises and spreads on the soil thanks to large surface rhizomes and quickly forms dense mats.

Its heart-shaped leaves are a beautiful shiny dark green. The 'Priceana' variety is distinguished by a white flowering maculate with violet that blooms from May until early summer.

It likes heavy as well as light soils but prefers moist soil and shade or partial shade. It can be planted on the edge of woodlands and even withstands the competition of roots. Plant it alongside white Cyclamen coum, common primrose, Brunnera macrophylla 'Looking Glass'.

Violets and pansies belong to the Viola genus. How to differentiate a violet from a pansy? By the arrangement of their petals: the former has two upright petals and three petals pointing downwards, while the latter has four upright petals, with the fifth, larger than the others, drooping. Violets are native to almost all temperate regions of the globe. The majority of them are perennials, but hybrids with large flowers are sold and used as annual plants.
