Description

Trollius europaeus Lemon Supreme is a low variety of globeflower. It is distinguished by its brilliant lemon yellow flowering and particularly dark green foliage. Its large buttercup-like flowers, consisting of several rows of petals, brighten up borders and woodlands. Easy to grow, it thrives in sunny and partially shaded positions and prefers light and moist, even damp soils.

Native to the mountains of Europe, Trollius europaeus belongs to the Ranunculaceae family. It generally grows in damp meadows, pastures, sometimes in light woodlands, at the edge of water or on marshy soils. It can be found at altitudes of up to 2,000 metres (2,187 yards), which explains its excellent hardiness! Trollius europaeus Lemon Supreme forms clumps of finely divided apple green leaves with 5 lobes. It flowers from May onwards with large lemon yellow ball-shaped flowers measuring 3 to 5 cm (1 to 2in) in diameter on stems 30 cm (12in) high, resembling giant buttercups.

Grow Trollius europaeus Lemon Supreme on the banks of a pond or in a moist border alongside wild-looking perennials such as Ferns, Solomon's Seal, Polygonum bistorta 'Superba', complemented by a multitude of Bluebells.

Planting and care

The globeflower can be planted in full sun or partial shade in moist soil, by a pond or watercourses, or even in flowerbeds if the soil remains damp in summer. It thrives in light soils and also appreciates heavy and rich soils. Although Trollius europaeus tends to be more tolerant of drier soils than other Trollius species, it thrives best in moist soil.
