A bit disappointed... small pieces of plants and some even broken, which I of course replanted, but it's certain that in a shop I wouldn't have even looked at it... let alone bought it.

Description

Sedum sieboldii is a small outdoor succulent plant with beautiful bluish-grey foliage.

 

Cultivated for a long time as an indoor plant, this small sedum had to wait a long time to conquer the garden, as its resistance to cold was doubted. In fact, despite its fragile appearance, it holds up remarkably well outside in a warm location and in well-draining soil.

It forms a clump of creeping stems carrying round leaves in a lovely shade of blue tinged with pink or even bright red. The globular inflorescences, lying on the ground, don't exceed 15cm (6in) in height. In early autumn, they bear beautiful clusters of dark pink flowers. Note that the foliage completely disappears in winter.

 

Plant Sedum sieboldii in a south-facing rock garden, on banks, or among rocks along with stipa, salvias, and carex.

Planting and care

Plant Sedum sieboldii in full sun, or even scorching sun. It tolerates drought. Plant it in ordinary soil that is rather dry and well-drained. It will tolerate poor soil. It is a low-maintenance plant. For planting, prepare a hole 25 to 30cm (10 to 12in) wide and deep and keep it 30cm (12in) away from other plants. Do not water too much. In late winter, cut off the withered or frost-damaged stems. Sedum sieboldii does not tolerate winter moisture or heavy soils.
