Description

Iris chrysographes Black Knight is one of those rare perennials that has unique intensely black flowers!

The Black Knight Iris forms a rhizomatous clump that spreads slowly. In spring, it produces slender lanceolate leaves, 2cm (1in) wide and 30cm (12in) tall, in a lovely tender green colour. From June to September, it bears beautiful architectural flowers with deep black petals, perched at 50cm (20in) in height.

Very hardy and easy to grow, the Iris chrysographes Black Knight thrives in full sun or partial shade in moist, rich, clayey soil. Plant it on the banks of a pond or at the edge of a moist border. Its black and upright flowers create stunning contrasts with white-flowered perennials. Plant it with Astrantias, 'Annabelle' Hydrangeas, or Hostas.
