Description
The 'Uptik' series Red Coreopsis offers large flowers all summer long, resembling dark red daisies with yellow edges. Their centre is also yellow. This easy-to-grow perennial stands out for its wide flowers, its generous and long-lasting flowering loved by bees, and its compact and bushy habit. It thrives in the sun, in a cool and well-drained soil. Plant it without delay in a flower bed, a border, or even in a pot on your terrace. Its flowers are excellent for cutting.
From the Asteraceae family, the Uptick Red Coreopsis is a perennial herbaceous plant with rhizomes. It forms a basal clump of about 20 to 30cm in all directions. Flowering occurs from June to September, or even until the first frost, if you take care to regularly remove faded flowers. The flowers in heads (like daisies with more closely packed petals) measure 4 to 5cm in diameter. Solitary, they are carried by slightly hairy stems rising 30-40cm from the ground, just above the foliage. The petals are dark red with golden yellow edges and surround its yellow centre. They delight pollinating insects and will bring some colour to your country-style bouquets. The foliage, a beautiful bright green, disappears in autumn and reappears in spring.
The 'Uptick Red' coreopsis is a sun-loving plant that is easy to grow, but it dislikes winter moisture at the root level. Pair it with another coreopsis with yellow flowers to brighten up your composition, such as Coreopsis grandiflora 'Sonnenkind'. The Santolina serratifolia with its yellow pompom-like flowers will also be a good companion. Add some lightness to your flower bed with the grass, Stipa tenuifolia Pony Tails, which also loves the sun and well-drained soil.

Planting and care
The Uptick Red coreopsis is an easy-to-grow and hardy plant, with its only weaknesses being excessive moisture in winter and heavy soils that retain water. Otherwise, it thrives in full sun and prefers a light, cool, and well-drained soil. It tolerates drought fairly well. In spring, watch out for snails and slugs, as they are fond of its young shoots. Regularly remove faded flowers to prolong its generous flowering. In winter, cut the clump down to the ground, and it will regrow the following spring. Rejuvenate exhausted clumps by dividing them every 3 years or so.

- On the west coast and in the north-west (Galway, Limerick, Sligo, Donegal, Westport), delay planting by 1 to 2 weeks in spring and bring it forward by 1 to 2 weeks in autumn compared to the dates given, preferably choosing periods without strong winds.
- In the inland hills and plateaus (Wicklow Mountains, Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, Connemara, Killarney), it is best to plant in spring (April–May) or autumn (September–October), avoiding periods of waterlogged soil in winter and strong winds, which pose the main risk to newly planted trees in these areas.
