Description

The Syngonium 'Snow White', nicknamed 'Goosefoot' plant, is a non-climbing variety which retains a compact and bushy, always neat habit. This houseplant features decorative and bright foliage comprisingdark green, heart-shaped, broad and ovate, extensively tinted leaves splashed with white to pale green-white. To maintain the vibrancy of its colours, place this Syngonium in a bright spot without direct sunlight and ensure adequate ambient humidity. It is a relatively easy variety to grow.

Belonging to the Araceae family, the Syngonium 'Snow White' is a horticultural cultivar derived from the species Syngonium podophyllum. The genus Syngonium comprises around 36 species native to the humid tropical forests of Central and South America, particularly from Mexico to Brazil. In their natural habitat, these plants grow up trees, benefiting from the high humidity and dappled light under the canopy. This variety exhibits both a compact, bushy and upright habit and rapid growth, typically reaching between 30 and 60 cm in height and spread at maturity. It is nicknamed 'Goosefoot' or 'Arrowhead' due to the shape of its leaves, which boast a smooth texture and dark green colour, extensively splashed with creamy white. This cultivar does not flower. In indoor cultivation, it will appreciate bright indirect light, high ambient humidity, and a well-draining substrate to best replicate natural conditions.

The Syngonium 'Snow White' is a versatile plant that fits into various interior decoration styles. In a contemporary or minimalist interior, its neat habit and elegant variegated foliage make a striking impact. If you collect plants, pair it with plants like the Philodendron 'Brasil' and the Pothos 'Marble Queen', which share similar light and humidity requirements.

Avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf scorch on the Syngonium Snow White, as well as cold draughts. Maintenance and care

Water when the substrate is dry on the surface. In winter, reduce the watering frequency. Mist the foliage regularly to maintain high ambient humidity.

Potting advice, substrates and fertilisers

Repot in spring every 1 to 2 years or when the roots start to outgrow the pot.
Use a well-draining potting mix enriched with organic matter, ideally mixed with clay pebbles or perlite to promote aeration and prevent waterlogging.
Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser for green plants, applied every 2 to 3 weeks during the growth period (spring and summer). Reduce the frequency in autumn and winter.

Houseplant care

Undemanding, this plant simply requires removing yellowed leaves and wiping dusty leaves with a damp cloth to maintain their shine.
Prune the stems regularly to encourage branching and maintain a compact, dense shape.

Disease and pest advice

In case of infestation by scale insects, use a cotton pad soaked in alcohol to remove them, then spray a soapy water solution to prevent reinfestation. For red spider mite infestations, increase the ambient humidity and clean the leaves with a damp cloth. Shower the foliage, same applies for aphids.
