Mirabelle plum tree received in good condition within 48 hours in careful packaging... The bare-root tree looks nice for now, winter season obliges, I will have to wait for spring to see if it takes well... Promising flowers, very reliable website, I highly recommend!

Description

The 'Mirabelle de Nancy' Plum is the highly prized variety in regions with cold winters, capable of growing in limestone soils. This small tree, 5 to 6m (16 to 20ft) in height with a semi-spreading habit, grows in the sun, in light, limestone, moist but not excessively humid soil.

The 'Mirabelle de Nancy' Plum is a self-fertile variety, not requiring other trees to be fertilised. It produces, usually in August, clusters of yellow-orange fruits, with a diameter of 3-4cm (1-2in), and firm, fragrant flesh that separates easily from the stone. The mirabelle is a delicious table plum, appreciated in tarts and cakes, and is also used in some regions to make eau-de-vie.

Planting and care

Easy to grow, the 'Mirabelle de Nancy' Plum tree thrives in all types of light, limestone or neutral soil. However, it does not tolerate very clayey, shallow, and suffocating soils. Low maintenance, it requires little to no pruning. A light pruning of the tips at the end of fruiting every 3-4 years will be necessary to maintain a balanced canopy.
