Beautiful reception piece, well packaged and delivered promptly. I'm going to try to make it climb in a dead conifer hedge.

Description

The Hedera colchica 'Dentata Variegata' is a vigorous, hardy Ivy characterised by its abundant and variegated evergreen foliage of grey-green and cream-yellow. A climbing plant par excellence can cling to any support to form a beautiful green wall or ground cover.

With its rapid growth, this Colchis Ivy can reach a height of 6m (20ft). Its large ovate leaves, 7 to 15cm (3 to 6in) long, are less glossy than the type and are marginated with grey-green and cream-yellow. Its branches attach themselves to supports with powerful climbing roots. The blue-black, toxic berries are a winter food source for birds.

The Hedera colchica 'Dentata Variegata' thrives in any fertile, humus-rich, moist, and well-drained soil in any exposure but sheltered from winds. To promote faster growth of new shoots, fix the first ones to the ground (layering). Do not hesitate to rejuvenate the plant by removing old branches.

The Hedera colchica 'Dentata Variegata' is a good wall cover, but do not overuse it as it can quickly become invasive and even damage old walls or facades. Combine it with Acorus or Hostas for a beautiful architectural effect.

Planting and care

The Hedera colchica 'Dentata Variegata', which is easy to grow, can be planted all year round in fertile, moist but well-drained soil, preferably against a wall in a sheltered position away from cold winds. Fix the first ones to the ground to encourage young shoots to grow more quickly (layering). Don't hesitate to rejuvenate the plant by removing old branches. Regularly prune to shape it. For container cultivation, mix 7 parts ordinary soil, 3 parts turf, and 2 parts sand. Water regularly and apply fertilizer every month during the growing season. Keep the substrate moist during winter.
