Description

Isotoma 'Wendy's White' is a variety of Laurentia, notable for its neatly rounded habit and long-lasting white flowering. It forms a dense, cushion-like mound of fine green foliage. Its small, star-shaped, lightly fragrant flowers bloom from June until September-October. A graceful annual with delicate texture, perfect for edging beds, flower boxes, or hanging baskets on the terrace.

Isotoma 'Wendy's White' is a hybrid horticultural selection. It is a tender herbaceous perennial with a woody base, exhibiting very rapid growth, typically grown as an annual in our climate. A member of the Campanulaceae family, this 'Wendy's White' variety quickly develops into a naturally compact, rounded, and branching clump, reaching 25 to 30 cm in all directions. Its small, narrow, tapered, deeply cut, and toothed leaves are dark green. Between May-June and September, sometimes lasting until the first frosts of October, it produces small white flowers with five pointed, star-arranged lobes. These are pleasantly fragrant. This plant tolerates heat well, requires little water, but thrives and becomes more floriferous in fertile, moist soil.

Isotoma 'Wendy's White' is an excellent choice for decorating pots and hanging baskets. Easy to grow and generous, it is an airy and decorative plant. Plant it en masse in borders or beds, or as accents among taller plants and grasses. Pair it with Pennisetum x advena 'Rubrum', Ivy-Leaved Geranium – King of Balconies, begonias, and petunias and surfinias.

Planting and care

Isotoma Wendy's White requires very little maintenance and thrives in a sunny position. Plant it in the garden after the last frosts. Ensure the young plant does not lack water and occasionally remove faded flowers. Although drought-tolerant, it will be more floriferous and more attractive when planted in soil that remains slightly moist. In very mild climates, it behaves as a perennial, but it is advisable to overwinter the plant if you wish to keep it from year to year. Repot it and keep it in a conservatory or unheated greenhouse during winter. Caution: the sap of this plant may be irritating to some people. Slugs and snails enjoy its foliage: be sure to protect your young plants in spring.
