Lettuce Kinemontepas seeds - Lactuca sativa

The Kinemontepas Lettuce is a hardy variety with green and crunchy leaves gathered in a large, firm head. It withstands heat well and is slow to bolt. It is perfect for summer crops and can be sown from March to June for a harvest 8 to 10 weeks later.

Lettuce is one of the most popular vegetables (consuming 4.2 kilograms per person per year) because of its freshness, crunchiness, taste and nutritional qualities. It can be eaten raw in salads but also cooked, for example, to accompany peas.

The quintessential leafy vegetable lettuce is an annual plant belonging to the large family of Asteraceae. Its Latin name, Lactuca sativa, refers both to the white sap (lactuca) that flows when it is cut and to the fact that it is cultivated (sativa).

It is essential in any respectable vegetable garden, and there are so many varieties that it can be grown almost all year round.

Growing Lettuce is easy as long as you follow the cultivation instructions for each variety. It grows quickly and thrives in any soil, provided it is rich and remains moist.

Harvest: Simply use a knife to cut the lettuces at the ground when they are well developed.

Storage: Lettuce can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days, but to best enjoy its freshness we recommend eating it immediately after harvesting. Freezing cooked Lettuce is also possible.

Gardener's tip: Slugs and snails are a nightmare for gardeners as they love lettuce leaves. We are ready to do anything to repel or eliminate them: the ash line (which will be quickly washed away by rain), the homemade trap filled with beer (which hedgehogs get drunk on), the copper bands supposedly electrocuting them (which tickle them a little)...

Instead of wasting your time and, incidentally, your salads, we recommend using an anti-slug product composed of ferric phosphate known as Ferramol. Unlike metaldehyde-based slug killers, which are dangerous to wildlife and polluting, Ferramol is natural, non-toxic, and very effective as long as you remember to "treat" your plot a few days before sowing.
