Lilium nepalense

Your lilies will be available in early October; plant them as soon as you receive them. They thrive in winter cold, which allows them to root. Dig deep holes filled with a mix of 1/3 garden soil with 2/3 leaf compost and plant the bulbs 10cm (4in) deep. They tolerate partial shade but will not like excessive moisture in winter. Choose a well-drained humus-bearing soil for them. Watch out for attacks from lily leaf beetles in spring. These bright red beetles hide under the leaves and their larvae will greedily devour them. The most effective control method is to drop the insects into your hand and crush them, do this once a week for one month.

Our Tip: Lilies are well-suited to container gardening. Plant 1 to 5 bulbs in a deep pot, water lightly and place your pots in a frost-free location. Bring them out in spring and enjoy their fragrance on your terrace!
