Lilium Mister Cas

Lilium 'Mister Cas' is an adorable hybrid variety of oriental lily. The large, downward-facing trumpet-shaped flowers with recurved petals exhibit a wide orange throat, speckled with brown on a white-cream background. They have a thick substance and a very pleasant fragrance. This vigorous variety with strong, sturdy stems also has dark green, glossy, vibrant and healthy foliage. Stunning in bouquets, this lily will look superb in borders and flower beds or a large pot on the terrace.

Lilium 'Mister Cas' is derived, among others, from Henry's Lily, a botanical species that grows in the mountains of central China, particularly in the Yangtze Gorges, on limestone soil. This species has given rise to easy-to-grow varieties with great vigour. 'Mister Cas' is a deciduous bulbous plant that has a narrow and very upright growth habit from spring. It belongs to the Liliaceae family. This sturdy, slender and graceful plant will reach 1.2m (4ft) high when in bloom, and the clump will spread indefinitely over time. In late July, large flowers measuring 7 to 15 cm (3 to 6in) appear, grouped in umbels on particularly strong stems. They are pendulous and their petals curl up when mature. Their fragrance can vary in intensity and becomes heightened after a hot day. The dark green, wide and lanceolate leaves, are whorled and shiny. This hybrid is a very long-lived plant that naturalises over time.

You can pair this lily with botanical lilies (Lilium regale, Lilium candidum), which have the same growing conditions, or with tall perennial plants like foxgloves, daylilies, delphiniums, or even small bushes like landscape roses or lavender, as they like having shade at their base. You can also grow it in a pot to bring it closer to your terrace or window borders, so you can fully enjoy the exceptional and fragrant flowering, which is both elegant and graceful.
