Description

The 'Quinty Trustfull' tulip is a wildly romantic double early tulip, whose colouring hovers between old rose, bluish pink and light pink. Its very full flower opens into a wide cup, like a peony. It is particularly beautiful planted in dense groups in a spring border, a border near the house or a large pot. With fairly short stems and excellent vase life, it is a good cut flower tulip.

Tulip 'Quinty Trustfull' belongs to the Tulipa genus, Liliaceae family. Tulips are perennial bulbous plants. This variety is classified in the horticultural group of double early tulips, which includes early-flowering tulips with double flowers borne on rather short, sturdy stems. Registered in 2019 by Hybris B.V., in Lisse, the Netherlands, it is the result of a cross between 'Mondial' and an unnamed seedling. This new variety was presented at the Tulpen Top 10 Interpolis in 2020.
The plant reaches 35 to 40cm in height depending on growing conditions. It flowers early in the tulip season, most often in April, or even May depending on climatic conditions. The very double flower measures about 6.5cm in length. Its colouring is a blend of light bluish pink and slightly more intense shades; the inside of the corolla shows a white base, white stamens and yellow pollen. On the outside, the base is white, the petals are light bluish pink, with a more pronounced bluish pink veil and, on the outermost petal, a discreet greenish-brown flame or plume. The stem is green, very slightly purplish at its tip. The green, elliptical to broadly lanceolate foliage turns yellow after flowering, then disappears as the bulb enters its summer dormancy.
This tulip is named after Quinty Trustfull, a Dutch television personality, who christened it in January 2019 during the National Tulip Day in Amsterdam. Dutch tulip growers also wished to honour her commitment as an ambassador for the Pink Ribbon foundation against breast cancer.

In a border, a flower bed or a zinc pot, the 'Quinty Trustfull' tulip pairs well with the early flowers of white narcissi 'Obdam' and the first bright blue bells of Siberian squills. With the more peachy tulip 'Peach Blossom', it creates a delicate monochrome, while 'Foxtrot', in candy pink, extends this soft and romantic palette.

Planting and care

Plant 'Quinty Trustfull' tulip bulbs in autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15cm, spacing them 10cm apart in ordinary, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly lime-bearing, loose, well-worked and well-drained soil. Never add manure or poorly decomposed compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. Tulips grow well in moist soil in spring, slightly drier in summer. Place it in a good location, in full sun or partial shade.
