Description

Narcissus Rugulosus Flore Pleno is a delicate semi-double, yellow, very robust and fragrant daffodil.

Daffodils are the most resistant bulbs planted in autumn. They tolerate both full sun and partial shade. They prefer well-drained soil but also thrive in heavy soil.

In vases: We advise you not to mix daffodils with other flowers. Especially tulips, as the daffodil stems contain a substance that quickly wilts other flowers. This detrimental effect on other flower types can be mitigated by dipping the ends of the daffodil stems in warm water for 1 to 2 minutes.

Daffodils come back every year. Unlike perennial plants, you do not need to feed them before flowering. Only cut the leaves when they have turned yellow and fertilise then, as this is when the bulb replenishes itself and prepares the flowers for the following year.

Planting and care

Daffodils bloom from March to May and come back every year. They are easy to grow and thrive in the shade of a woodland or a sunny flower bed. Plant them 10 cm (4in) deep and 10 cm (4in) apart in sets of at least 5 bulbs, in patches of uniform or mixed colours. To plant them in a lawn: remove a patch of turf, dig and loosen the soil to a depth of at least 20 cm (8in) (the length of a spade), place your bulbs, cover them with soil and replace the turf. Choose a spot where you won't mow too early, as you must let the daffodil leaves wither before cutting them. This is when the bulb replenishes itself and prepares the flowers for the following year. However, remove the flowers as soon as they wilt to prevent seed formation which would unnecessarily deplete the bulb.
