Lobelias or lobelias are perennials or annuals with long and generous flowering. Easy to grow, these plants are appreciated for their narrow foliage and their light cluster flowers from June to October. Also called Marsh Cardinal, they like sunny or semi-shady situations and a light, rich, moist, and well-drained soil. Add gravel to heavy soil and mulch in harsh winters. Used in borders, edging, hanging baskets, or containers, they are greatly complimented by grasses in yellow tones. Examples of perennial species include; Lobelias cardinalis (80cm (32in)) with bright red flowers, Lobelias gerardii 'Vedrariensis' (60cm (24in)) with violet flowers, and Lobelias speciosa "Russian Princess" (80cm (32in)) with bronze foliage. In terms of annuals, there is the abundant flowering Lobelias erinus in blue and white.

Maintenance: Prune after the first flowering to promote a floral comeback and provide fertilizer for flowering plants.

Benefits: Lobelia inflata is used in homeopathy to quit smoking.

You'll adore them!
