Planting and care

To grow a healthy hydrangea macrophylla, you need to plant it in a soil that drains well, is rich in humus, and acidic. Choose a sunny or shady spot depending on your preference. Prepare the soil by working deeply to allow enough space for the roots to grow. You can also add fertiliser to encourage growth without burning the plant. During summer, it is best not to cut the flowers as the large dried umbels provide protection for the terminal shoots in winter. Wait until the end of February or the first signs of good weather to cut all the dry flowers.
