Hydrangea 'Antico Fresco' belongs to the Hydrangeaceae family. This cultivar bears the registration code HORE2003302. It comes from the Doppio® line integrated into the Rembrandt® collection of the Dutch nurseryman Lendert de Vos B.V. This Doppio line offers flowers that are semi‑double to double, impressive and original. The Rembrandt® collection brings together hydrangeas with a compact habit, sturdy stems and evolving blooms, very long-lasting in the garden as well as in a vase. Their flowering can remain decorative for more than 100 days.
The plant has an erect and compact habit, reaching approximately 1m in height and 0.80m to 1m in width. The foliage is deciduous in winter, consisting of broad oval leaves (10 to 15cm long), glossy dark green with finely toothed margins. This variety is distinguished by its inflorescences in pompons of 15 to 20cm in diameter. The semi-double flowers open in soft green, then evolve towards shades of cream and soft pink, before turning to rich pink to dark rose-red at the end of the season. In acidic soils (pH ≤ 6), they can take on lavender or mauve shades.

Description
Hydrangea macrophylla or Rembrandt® Doppio® Antico Fresco hydrangea is a compact variety with a strong personality. Its semi-double flowers, gathered in generous pompons, open in soft green, are adorned with cream highlights, and then take on pink hues over the weeks. Compact but with a sturdy framework, its long flowering with changing colours has a style that is both very contemporary and old-fashioned. Place it on the patio or in the garden, sheltered from scorching sun.
Hydrangea 'Doppio Antico Fresco' is a shrub that enjoys partial shade. It makes a statement in a pot on a slightly shaded patio, surrounded by ferns like Athyrium filix-femina 'Frizelliae', tiarellas and heucherellas or small white-flowering campanulas. When mixed with other compact varieties such as Hydrangea macrophylla Magical® Coral rosa, it will create a low hedge full of nuances. To enhance its romantic feel, you can associate it with a small Japanese maple such as Acer palmatum 'Shaina'.
Note: The colour of Hydrangea macrophylla flowers varies according to the soil pH. Traditionally blue varieties turn pink in neutral or alkaline soil. To preserve a beautiful blue colour, mix acidic soil or peat into your garden soil and apply aluminium sulphate (slate contains it) or alum stone each spring.

Planting and care
Plant Hydrangea macrophylla Rembrandt Doppio Antico Fresco in spring or early autumn, preferably in a slightly shaded position, for example against a wall facing east, or even north. It tolerates morning sun well. Place it sheltered from cold, drying winds. It does not necessarily require acidic soil, which is poor, but appreciates a deep, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil, possibly enriched with a good fertiliser before planting. If the soil is dry at the foot of the wall, place the root ball at least 30 or 40 cm from the base and incorporate well-rotted compost to better retain moisture in the soil. It is very hardy, suitable for cold regions.
