Description

Hydrangea macrophylla Dolce Kiss ('Dolkis') is a French creation of rare elegance. Its two-tone inflorescences, with slightly cut petals, stand out against beautiful purple foliage. This hydrangea blooms abundantly in June-July and has the potential to bloom again in September.

Hydrangea macrophylla Dolce Kiss ('Dolkis') is a perfect bush for shady corners in your garden. Its rounded habit is well ramified. The flowers are grouped in inflorescences known as "grandmother's bonnet". This means that a crown of large sterile flowers surrounds smaller fertile flowers. Here, the sterile flowers are white edged with red and subtly complement the purple hues of the foliage.

Grow your hydrangeas in both pots and borders, and enjoy their flowering in fresh and dried bouquets.

Planting and care

Plant in a shady or semi-shady location. This type of bush does not tolerate chalky soils, so enrich the planting hole with ericaceous soil. Also add some draining material and sand to the planting hole to lighten the soil. Prune in late winter by removing dead wood. Remove old stems that have turned slightly grey, which will rejuvenate the plant. Cut these branches above a large bud. It will appreciate a 5cm (2in) layer of mulch on the soil to keep it cool at its base during summer. Cut the first flowers to encourage a later bloom.
