Out of the 5 ordered, I only received 4 (a credit note was issued for the missing plant). The young plants are not magnificent, some only have a few leaves, and I think one of them should not have been shipped as it seems barely viable. Nevertheless, they all have beautiful roots. We'll see if they start growing in the coming weeks.

Description

Forsythia intermedia is an ornamental bush, one of the first to bloom at the end of winter. The upright and then spreading branches bear numerous small bell-shaped flowers in a bright yellow colour in March-April. The flowers have petals and stamens in a golden yellow colour. They appear before the leaves.

The foliage is deciduous. The leaves are dark green and have a dentate margin. It grows rapidly and can reach a height of 3 metres (9 feet 10 inches) at maturity. It is a hardy plant native to China and Japan.

Forsythia intermedia, also known as Paris Mimosa, can be grown both alone and in groups in flowerbeds, especially with Abelia grandiflora, Smokebush, Mahonia, or Mock Orange. It can be used as a flowering hedge plant as its branching is quite low. You can also train it to grow against a wall. Its flowers can be cut. In early December, cut a branch or two and put them in a vase, they will bloom for Christmas. Forsythia intermedia is a hybrid between Forsythia suspensa and Forsythia viridissima.

It is supplied as a bare-rooted young plant in a small size to create cost-effective hedgerows or mixed hedges.

Planting and care

Forsythia intermedia appreciates a sunny position as well as partial shade. Place it in any soil, avoiding limestone soils. After flowering, every 2 years, prune it to promote future flowering. For the first 3 years, a simple removal of dead, thin or misplaced stems will be sufficient. It is provided to you as a bare root in a small size for economical grouped planting or mixed hedges.
