Description

Enkianthus campanulatus var. palibinii is an upright bush admired for its elegance. This very delicate plant blooms from May to June with small bell-shaped dark pink flowers with fine veins in pendulous clusters. The Enkianthus has deciduous foliage that is bright green and turns bright red in autumn. It requires an acidic soil.

Growing up to 2 to 3 m (6 ft 7 in to 9 ft 10 in) in height, it is a very hardy bush that can be placed outdoors all year round. This plant is cultivated in shrub beds, woods, copses, or thickets. It is well suited for small gardens as well as terraces when placed in containers.

This Enkianthus will enhance your semi-shaded courtyards. Originating from Japan and southern China, the Enkianthus campanulatus var. palibinii has received the Courson merit.

Planting and care

Enkianthus campanulatus var. palibinii likes sunny or semi-shaded exposures, sheltered from East winds. Plant it in moist but well-drained, light, humus-bearing, fertile and acidic soil. You can protect it in winter by covering the base with straw or dry leaves. This bush does not require pruning and is disease-resistant.
