Description
The Candlelight Bush Rose is sometimes marketed under the names Bataclan or Global Beauty. It is a modern hybrid tea variety that combines the old-fashioned charm of antique roses with the robustness of modern roses. On a vigorous yet compact bush, large double cup-shaped flowers in a warm yellow colour bloom from June to October, softening in the sun and as the hours pass. They are beautifully complemented by the dark green foliage. These roses emit an intense fragrance, typical of tea roses. It will be perfect in a small flowerbed or in a vase, surrounded by blue, white, or mauve flowers.
The Candlelight® ('Tan94488') Rose was selected by German rose breeder Tantau in 2003 and belongs to the hybrid tea group, characterized by the beautiful turbinated shape of their flowers. In this variety, the flowers resemble English roses more with their quartered arrangement, similar to certain old roses. This excellent variety has received multiple awards in international competitions: Gold Medal and Rose d'Or in Baden-Baden in 2002, Silver Medal in Monza in 2003, and Warsaw Certificate in 2005 and 2010.
This Bataclan rose forms an erect bush with a height of 90cm (35in) to 1m (3ft) and a spread of 50cm (20in), and it is highly repeat flowering. Its double flowers are slightly flattened cups, measuring 12 to 14cm (5 to 6in) wide, and particularly long-lasting in a vase. The 50 petals are tightly packed and arranged in quarters. Their colour changes from golden yellow to creamy yellow as the hours pass, with a salmon tinge warming the centre of the flower. The strong branches bear abundant, healthy, glossy dark green foliage. It has excellent disease resistance. The flowers are solitary and borne on long, sturdy stems.
This Candlelight hybrid tea rose, with its warm and fragrant flowering, deserves an equally graceful setting and a spot near the house. Some light-flowering perennial plants (autumn asters, foxgloves, Penstemons), as well as grasses, are ideal for enhancing its beauty and accompanying it late in the season. For example, pair it with 'Rozanne' geraniums, Nepeta 'Walker's Low', and blue or white Campanulas. It will also make a good impression as a standalone plant or in a large pot on your terrace or balcony. Its flowers make stunning bouquets, accompanied by peonies and white lilacs.
Bred by Tantau - 2003.

To install your Candlelight rose, work the soil to a depth of 40cm (16in) by crumbling the soil well and placing a bottom amendment such as dried blood or dehydrated horn in the planting hole. Position your plant, covering the graft point with 3cm (1in) of soil, backfill and water generously to eliminate air pockets. In dry weather, regular watering is necessary for a few weeks to facilitate rooting. Also, remember to apply special rose fertilizer to your rose plant to stimulate flowering.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
