This pruning shear by Opinal is a cutting tool that combines strength, maneuverability, and aesthetics designed to satisfy demanding gardeners. It is equipped with stainless steel blades. Stainless steel is an alloy steel. It is obtained by adding chromium, which significantly increases its resistance to corrosion. Stainless steel requires no special maintenance. Its handle is made of beech, which is the most commonly used wood for Opinel handles. Sourced from French plantations, it is hard, resistant, and easy to work with. Its homogeneous appearance varies from yellow to pink. It is recognisable by the presence of numerous small dark lines. The handle is varnished to better protect it against humidity and dirt.

Classified in 1985 by the Victoria and Albert Museum among the top 100 designs, exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Opinel is one of the most famous French knives. It was created in 1890 by Joseph Opinel, who was 18 years old at the time, and its success has never waned since. By 1897, the range was complete with its 12 sizes. The "La main couronnée" brand was registered in 1909.

The modified 12C27 stainless steel by Sandvik, developed for Opinel, is renowned for its sharpness and ease of maintenance. Stainless steel capable of undergoing the heat treatment that gives it its good hardness is called martensitic. It has a carbon content of at least 0.40%, which allows for a very satisfactory sharpness without being susceptible to corrosion. Blade hardness: 57-58 HRC.The traditional Opinel blade is called a Yatagan blade. Its shape is inspired by a Turkish saber, with a raised point. The blade is ground with an exclusive curved profile that guarantees the robustness of the blade and allows for efficient sharpening.

Directions for use This branch cutter allows you to cut thick, live branches and dead wood measuring up to 4.2 cm (2in) in diameter. Avoid using it on wood that is too soft or green as it may crush the tissues. With its long arms, it is more suitable than secateurs for pruning subjects that require a wider cutting width and a longer reach, such as thorny bushes. It can be used to prune all types of trees, bushes, fruit trees, conifers, bamboo, roses, vines, fruit bushes, hedge plants, and climbing plants. Clean the blades with alcohol after use. This step helps prevent the transmission of diseases from one plant to another, and also helps keep your tool in good condition for a long time (the sap from certain plants can attack the blades or make them sticky over time). Store this tool in a dry place, protected from bad weather.
