This traditional splitting wedge by Polet is made of 2 kg steel and is 24 cm (9in) long, making it easy to split logs with the help of a mallet or a sledgehammer. A high-quality tool.

 

The wedge is a very simple tool with a double inclined plane, and its sharp edge is used to split wood along the grain. The smaller the angle of the wedge, the greater the applied force. It should be placed vertically on the surface and in the centre of a stable log, with the edge pointing downwards. It is important to slightly penetrate the edge of the wedge into the wood by striking the flat side with a hammer or the flat side of a mallet, while holding the wedge with one hand. Once the wedge is stabilised in the log, the user can strike its flat face forcefully with the mallet, from a distance and with a good swing.

Directions for use The wedge is positioned vertically on the surface and at the centre of the stabilised wood log, with the cutting edge facing downwards. It is essential to drive the cutting edge of the wedge slightly into the wood by striking the flat side with a mallet or the flat side of a sledgehammer while holding the wedge with one hand, just like when starting to drive in a nail. Protect your hand with a thick glove. Once the wedge is securely in the log, the user can forcefully strike its flat face with the sledgehammer, from a distance and with momentum.
