Wow, stunning foliage that resembles an exotic young plant, it has endured a wet winter and alternating soil droughts, and it is thriving beautifully. Looking forward to the flowering. Absolutely fantastic!

Description

The Sanguisorba tenuifolia 'Pink Elephant' is a robust burnet, a variety with a very refined appearance that stands out with a delightfully feathery flowering in a very eye-catching pink. This vigorous perennial, with a refined appearance, shows graceful curved spikes in the heart of summer, covered with flowers in bright pink buds that open into soft pink plumes, gracefully inclined above finely cut and finely dissected, bluish-green foliage. Its vigorous stump is very hardy in well-drained soil, but dislikes heavy waterlogged soils in winter. It will bring a touch of poetry to sunny borders, while animating them with vertical and flexible movement.

The Sanguisorba tenuifolia is a plant native to Japan, China, and Mongolia, which belongs to the rose family. The 'Pink Elephant' cultivar is a herbaceous and rhizomatous perennial plant, non-invasive, developing from a vigorous stump. It forms a tuft of 1.50 m (5ft) in height when flowering, 50 cm (20in) in width, with rapid growth. It slowly spreads to form beautiful small hedges. In August-September, large flower spikes emerge from the foliage, initially vertical and then trailing at their tips, bearing small 5 to 8 cm (2 to 3in) long spikes, in the shape of pokers, adorned with cylindrical flowers that take on a frayed appearance when fully bloomed. The faded inflorescences remain decorative for a long time. This flowering gracefully cascades above finely dissected, bluish-green foliage, on which rain forms beads. The leaves are divided into 11 to 19 leaflets, oblong and regularly toothed.

The Sanguisorba tenuifolia 'Pink Elephant' is a very beautiful plant, very airy, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful burnets. It thrives near water, in well-drained soil. It has the advantage of withstanding wind, which allows it to be planted at the front of shrub borders or large perennials exposed to drafts. For a beautiful wild and refined effect, it can be associated with Miscanthus sinensis var. condensatus 'Cosmopolitan' or the variety M. s. 'Silberfeder'. It will accompany, with lightness, the equally poetic flowering of Dierama pulcherrima, Japanese anemones, Aster, Polygonum orientale, Campanula lactiflora, Veronicastrum.

Planting and care

Sanguisorba tenuifolia 'Pink Elephant' prefers always moist soils in summer, and a sunny exposure. This lovely perennial plant, native to cold regions, enjoys a cool and rich soil. However, it only moderately appreciates a clayey, heavy, and especially wet soil. It prefers soil rich in humus and well-drained because despite its high cold resistance, it will die in the winter in an impermeable soil. Cut back the clump before the start of vegetation in spring.
