Description

The Persicaria campanulata is a tall, robust perennial, bearing in summer large, pale pink spikes, wide and airy.

This tall knotweed forms a bush reaching 1.20m (4ft) to 1.50m (5ft) in height, it is slightly running, but not invasive. The ovate, deciduous leaves, dark green in colour, have a whitish underside.

In early summer, the small clusters of pale pink flowers are borne in large numbers on branched stems. Not demanding on the nature of the soil, the Persicaria campanulata likes moist soils and partial shade.

In the garden, it will thrive under the same conditions as hostas, loosestrifes and rodgersias.

Planting and care

The Persicaria campanulata is a lovely species to plant in a cool and fertile soil for it to thrive. In our garden, we cultivate it on the edge of a fresh woodland area, alongside Lysimachia clethroides and Brunnera macrophylla.
