Description
Omphalodes cappadocica 'Lilac Mist' or Venus's Navel 'Lilac Mist' is a perennial that forms spreading terminal clusters from April to May, measuring 15 to 25cm (6 to 10in) in length. These clusters are composed of three to twelve small flowers with 5 petals that are 2 to 5mm (0in) in diameter and pale lilac in colour. The small flowers have long pedicels and are arranged in elongated cymes.
This plant, native to Turkey, is very hardy. Its basal, evergreen green leaves form slowly expanding clumps. They measure 5 to 10cm (2 to 4in) in length and are ovate in shape, finely pointed, and cordate (resembling a heart). The mature plant reaches a height of up to 25cm (10in).
A cousin of the small borage, Omphalodes cappadocica 'Lilac Mist' is of interest in spring. It prefers partial shade and is a woodland perennial.

Planting and care
Omphalodes cappadocica appreciates partial shade. Place it in a fresh, moderately fertile, humus-bearing and fairly light soil. It can be planted in both a rather dry and slightly chalky soil, as well as in a heavy, clayey and acidic soil. It tolerates less moist soil. This plant is very easy to grow and does not require any special care. In late winter, remove the foliage that has been damaged by cold and rain so that the plant can shine at the beginning of spring. Do not divide the clump before it establishes itself. Beware of snails and slugs that appreciate it.
