Very beautiful young plant that tolerates almost anything (dryness, humidity if well-drained) but not heat: I lost them despite watering during heatwaves. I will try the next ones in even more shade.

Description

Melittis melissophyllum 'Royal Velvet' distinguishes itself from the typical species with white flowers dotted with a very intense purple lip. This robust perennial tolerates all types of soils, even limestone, and prefers semi-shady areas in the garden.

In summer, the plant produces a few seeds that allow it to naturalise in gardens, without being invasive. It grows in dry shade, even under conifers.

Accompanied by hybrid Pulmonaria 'Majesty', hybrid Hosta 'Big Daddy', and perennial Geranium 'Mourning Widow', 'Royal Velvet' will bring a touch of originality to spring flower beds.
