Received with others during full lockdown, despite a one-month delay for a parcel lost by the post office, everything was so well watered and packaged, and of such high quality, that against all expectations, the young plants were able to recover and thrive. Hats off.

Description

Lamium galeobdolon 'Hermann's Pride' is a perennial ground cover, which brings cheer to shaded areas of the garden. The plant has a more compact habit and is less invasive than the type.

This lamium blooms in early summer with spikes of tubular flowers with two lips. They are bright yellow and measure 1 to 2cm (1in) long. Also known as yellow archangel, this plant adds brightness to the garden with its beautiful silver-striated green foliage. Its small leaves, 2 to 3cm (1in) long, are ovate and semi-evergreen.

At maturity, the plant can reach 40cm (16in) tall. Originally from Asia, it is very hardy and tolerant of drought. The yellow archangel is attractive to bees, butterflies, and birds. It can be placed in borders. Do not plant it too close to other low-growing plants, as it may smother them.

Planting and care

Lamium 'Hermann's Pride' thrives in shade or partial shade. It can tolerate full sun with consistently moist soil, but the foliage colour is more vibrant in the shade. Plant it in light, chalky soil that is moist but not overly saturated with water, as lamium is sensitive to stagnant moisture. Easy to grow, trim the plant in spring to encourage new shoots and achieve more compact plants. It is often infested with aphids, so treat it as soon as they appear. It may also be occasionally attacked by slugs and snails.
