Description
The Iberis sempervirens 'Masterpiece' is a vigorous shrub with a spreading habit, ideal for rockeries, borders and sunny containers, from spring to autumn. This remarkably floriferous variety is adorned with multiple flowers of a bright white color, covering a thick, dark green and evergreen foliage. Very drought-resistant once well established, it can thrive in any well-drained soil, even poor and limestone. It prefers full sun but also tolerates partial shade.
The Iberis sempervirens, also known as Tabouret or Silver Basket, is an undershrub of the brassicaceae family, native to the Mediterranean region. This plant therefore tolerates heat and drought once well established and prefers well-drained soils. Its foliage is composed of numerous small oblong and narrow leaves, measuring barely 2 cm (1in), dark green and evergreen. They are carried by woody stems that form a dense clump 30-35 cm (12-14in) high and spreads at least 40 cm (16in). The cushions of 'Masterpiece', present all year round, are covered from March-April to November, in successive waves and depending on the freshness of the soil, with flat and compact inflorescences of 5 cm (2in) wide. They consist of very small flowers with four sparkling white petals, animated by the ballet of pollinating insects.
'Masterpiece' is particularly decorative, but it is best suited for regions with relatively mild winters, as its hardiness does not exceed -10/-12°C (14/10.4°F) in healthy soil. However, to bring life and lushness to a rockery or a rocky and challenging soil, the Iberis sempervirens 'Masterpiece' is essential. It can be planted alongside Aubrietas, Arabis, Cerastium and Moss Phlox, Stachys lanata, Cerastostigma, Teucrium, along paths, terraces, highlighting the front of flower beds and complementing the range of colors of each. It also finds its place in container compositions and pairs well with spring bulbs in pastel tones: for example, the Hyacinth 'China Pink' and the Tulips from the Harmonie Bruges collection. Growing in pots is perfectly possible, provided regular watering in a perfectly drained substrate.

Iberis sempervirens 'Masterpiece' settles in spring or autumn (in mild and dry climates) directly in place or in a pot in a sunny exposure. It will also tolerate a slight shade.
It will even support and prefer poor, even calcareous, stony or sandy soils. If you place it in richer soil or slightly heavier soil, make sure to add a little gravel or coarse sand during planting, as it will not appreciate stagnant water, especially in winter, which will further reduce its cold resistance.
This plant requires little maintenance. You can simply remove the faded flowers by lightly pruning it if you want to maintain a more compact shape.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).

- In the inland hills and plateaus (Wicklow Mountains, Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, Connemara, Killarney), it is best to plant in spring (April–May) or autumn (September–October), avoiding periods of waterlogged soil in winter and strong winds, which pose the main risk to newly planted trees in these areas.
