Description

The Heuchera 'Pear Crisp' is a variety of herbaceaous perennial that is vibrant in appearance and colour. The plant forms a small, rounded, and compact cushion composed of strongly toothed leaves in a beautiful golden chartreuse green. In summer, it is adorned with slender stems bearing a creamy white and delicate flowering. It is a sturdy variety that maintains a neat appearance throughout the year and can be planted in partial shade or in the morning sun. It is a very bright and hardy Heuchera that can be grown in the garden or in a pot

The Heuchera 'Pear Crisp' belongs to the Saxifragaceae family. It is a horticultural hybrid dating back to 2014, from the 'Crisp' series by Terra Nova Nurseries. With a compact habit, it reaches a height of 15 to 20 cm (6 to 8in) (for the foliage) and a width of 25 to 30 cm (10 to 12in). Its highly ornamental foliage is evergreen even in winter, making it a valuable plant in the garden. Its lobed and distinct leaves are strongly toothed and fringed. They are yellowish-green in spring and turn chartreuse green in summer. The flowering, light and airy, takes place in May and June. The flowers, initially cream-white and then becoming white, are arranged along an upright stem of 30 cm (12in). This plant has a shallow root system.

Make room for the 'Pear Crisp' Heuchera on your terrace, balcony, and in the garden. Plant it in the ground in a border or shaded rockery, not too dry. For a nice contrast, pair it with a purple or violet Heuchera. Small grasses and ferns will give it a wild and romantic touch. It also makes a good companion for small bushes and bedding roses when planted at their base. Lastly, it makes an original ground cover. This Heuchera can also be paired with blue flowers, forget-me-nots, and Corydalis. As a cut flower, its delicate bells bring a lightness to bouquets.

Heucheras with trembling stems and tiny bells were very fashionable in the 19th century in all European gardens. It was the impressionist painters who named them 'Painter's Despair', having undoubtedly tried to represent them in vain.

Planting and care

Choose a morning sun or partially shaded exposure for your 'Pear Crisp' heuchera. Prepare a planting hole measuring 20 cm (8in) x 20 cm (8in) x 20 cm (8in). If your soil is heavy, mix in some compost with the crumbled soil, partially fill the hole, and place your seedling (after removing the pot) so that the top of the plant's root ball is covered with 3 cm (1in) of soil. Adding a slow-release fertilizer (dehydrated blood, horn powder) will nourish your plant during its rooting period without the risk of burning. Firm the soil and water generously to eliminate air pockets. If the weather is dry, you will need to water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate the establishment of your plant. Heucheras renew their foliage in late winter, so we recommend cutting back the previous year's leaves in January or February.
