Very good variety of heuchera which, from its planting, has quickly developed and has already produced some flowers. The colour is very beautiful and offers a gradient from violet to dark, going into burgundy. The small purple flowers provide a beautiful contrast and lightness compared to the dense and generous foliage.

Description

Heuchera 'Fire Chief' is a new variety with burgundy-red leaves topped with bicoloured pink and white flowers.

A vigorous perennial, this new heuchera blooms from June to July. In late spring, it bears numerous inflorescences composed of small pink buds that open up into white blossoms. The flowers are accompanied by sumptuous evergreen leaves in brick-red, then marbled with pink and turning purple.

At maturity, Heuchera 'Fire Chief' reaches a height of 45 cm (18 in) with a spread of 30-40 cm (12-16 in).

Heuchera thrives in rockeries and shady areas, as well as in borders and large flower beds. It can also be grown in containers on terraces. The inflorescences are often used in fresh bouquets.

Heuchera 'Fire Chief' blends in perfectly with gardens featuring warm and vibrant colours. Pair it with Echinacea 'Hot Summer', Echinacea 'Tomato Soup', Achillea millefolium 'Summerwine', or Sage jamensis 'Flammen'.

Planting and care

To plant your Heuchera Fire Chief, prepare a planting hole of 20 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm (8 in x 8 in x 8 in). If your soil is heavy, mix some compost with the crumbled soil, partially backfill, and place your bucket (after removing the pot) so that the top of the plant's root ball is covered with 3 cm (1 in) of soil. Adding a base fertiliser (dried blood or crushed horn) will nourish your plant during its rooting period without risk of burning. Firm the soil and water thoroughly to eliminate air pockets. If the weather is dry, you will need to water regularly for a few weeks to encourage the establishment of your plant. The woody stump tends to emerge from the ground, so mulch annually. In late winter, heucheras renew their foliage, so we recommend cutting back the previous year's leaves, in January or February.
