Description

Helleborus x hybridus Special Pink is a lovely variety with somewhat unusual colours. The flowers are composed of pale fuchsia pink petals and apricot orange petals, resulting in a dominant shade of peach and salmon.

Native to northwestern Turkey, the Caucasus, and northeastern Greece, Oriental Hellebore is a perennial plant that will brighten up the shaded areas of your garden in winter. It is a hardy plant that can withstand temperatures as low as -15°C (5°F) with palmate, slightly toothed, dark green and glossy, evergreen basal leaves, 30 to 40 cm (12 to 16in) long, composed of 7 to 9 leaflets.

The Oriental Hellebore reaches a height of 50 cm (20in) at maturity and spreads up to 30 cm (12in). Between February and April, a bouquet of single, cup-shaped and inclined flowers with a diameter of 5 to 7 cm (2 to 3in) forms. Hellebore is a bushy plant which does not like to be moved once established, as the young plants take some time to bloom.

It is suitable as cut flowers and in flower beds, borders, or even in pots. Hellebore flowers do not wilt over time like the majority of other flowers but dry out beautifully instead.

Each seed-sown Hellebore has a unique flower colour: slight variations in colour may exist between two plants, which is normal and inevitable. However, if the difference is too significant and spoils the desired effect, we will refund or replace the affected plant.

Planting and care

Oriental Hellebore Special Pink grows in any acidic, rich and light soil, in partial or light shade, sheltered from cold and dominant winds. Plant from early autumn to spring, between February and April. It thrives in deeply worked soil mixed with organic matter. To feed, use bone meal or another organic fertilizer. Water well after planting and add a layer of mulch 2 to 5 cm (1 to 2in) thick. Regularly remove faded leaves to improve flowering. Make sure to plant at a distance of 30 to 40 cm (12 to 16in) from each other to promote their growth. Hellebores do not like stagnant water as it can cause them to rot.
