Description

Oriental Hellebore Rose with Green Centre is a beautiful variety with medium pink flowers, adorned in the centre with a row of lime green petals that give it a strong intensity.

Native to northwest Turkey to the Caucasus and northeast Greece, the Oriental Hellebore is a perennial plant that will brighten up the shaded areas of your garden in winter. It is a hardy plant that can tolerate temperatures as low as -15°C (5°F). It has palmate, evergreen, slightly toothed, dark green and glossy basal leaves, 30 to 40 cm (12 to 16in) long and composed of 7 to 9 leaflets.

The Oriental Hellebore reaches a height of 40 cm (16in) at maturity and spreads over 30 cm (12in). Between February and April, a bouquet of single, cup-shaped, inclined flowers with a diameter of 5 to 7 cm (2 to 3in) forms. Hellebore is a bushy plant which does not like to be moved once established, as the young shoots take some time to flower.

It is suitable for cut flowers as well as in borders, beds or containers. Over time, the flowers of the Hellebore do not fade like the majority of other flowers, but dry up.

Each seed-sown Hellebore has a unique flower colour: thus slight variations in colour may exist between two plants, which is normal and unavoidable. However, if the difference is too significant and distorts the desired effect, we will refund or replace the affected plant.

Planting and care

Helleborus x hybridus pink with green centre grows in any acidic, rich and light soil, in partial or light shade, sheltered from cold winds. This perennial is planted from early autumn to spring, between February and April. It thrives in soil that has been deeply worked and mixed with some organic matter. To feed, use bone meal or another organic fertilizer. Water the plants well and add a layer of mulch 2 to 5 cm (1 to 2in) thick. Regularly remove wilted leaves to improve flowering. Make sure to plant each plant at a distance of 30 to 40 cm (12 to 16in) from each other to promote their development. Hellebore does not like stagnant water as it may cause it to rot.
