Description

Originally from northwest Turkey to the Caucasus, northeastern Greece, the Green hybrid Hellebore is a perennial plant with green flowers sprinkled with burgundy dots that will brighten up the shady areas of your garden in winter. It is a hardy plant that can withstand temperatures as low as -15°C (5°F). It has palmate basal, evergreen leaves, slightly dentate, dark green and shiny, 30 to 40 cm (12 to 16in) long, composed of 7 to 9 leaflets.

This hybrid Hellebore reaches a height of 40 cm (16in) at maturity and spreads over 30 cm (12in). From January to March, a bouquet of single, cup-shaped, inclined flowers forms, 5 to 7 cm (2 to 3in) in diameter. Hellebore is a bushy plant that does not like to be moved once established, the young shoots take some time to flower.

It is suitable as cut flowers and in flower beds, borders or containers,... Over time, Hellebore flowers do not fade like the majority of other flowers but dry out and remain decorative for a long time.

Each seed-sown Hellebore has a unique flower colour: thus slight variations in colour may exist between two plants, this is normal and inevitable. If, however, the difference is too significant and distorts the desired effect, we will refund or replace the plant.

Planting and care

Helleborus orientalis grows in rich and neutral soil in partial or light shade and sheltered from the wind. Plant from early autumn to spring to bloom from January to March. It thrives in deeply worked soil mixed with organic matter. To feed, use bone meal or another organic fertilizer. In acidic soil, add a bit of lime. Water the plants well after planting and then add a layer of mulch 2 to 5 cm (1 to 2in) thick. Regularly remove wilted leaves. Cut most of the leaves to highlight the flowers. Be careful not to plant the plants too close to each other, to promote their development. The Hellebore does not like stagnant water as it may cause it to rot.
